2017

Wine Searcher: Both Italy and Spain suffered terribly from the frosts and it will be a few years before the true quality of the vintage will be known.

Piedmont:
JR: Frost and drought affected yields across the region, and the heatwave over summer resulted in a shorter ripening period than usual. This may stunt aromatic development, although cool nights have preserved the characteristic high acidity of the region’s reds.

Tuscany/Chianti:
JR: While that should result in a good level of concentration, there may be stark tannins, especially in Sangiovese.

Wine Spectator: Heat and drought in spring and summer, with frost in some areas; the best are fresh and balanced, with dense tannins
