2013

Wine Searcher: Italy had a fantastic year with both Piedmont and Tuscany producing great reds.

Piedmont:
WS: Hold – A cooler growing season and late harvest resulted in wines of purity and finesse, with fine acidity; best Barolos since 2010.
JR: The prognosis is for a vintage similar in quality to the already legendary 2010s.

Tuscany/Chianti:
WS: Drink or Hold – Sleek, vibrant wines with bright, focused fruit flavors; at worst, lean and tart.
JR: Elegant, fresh wines. A promising vintage on the whole, with the wines of Montalcino expected to be exceptional.
